External Stairwells
The lighting of external stairways needs to be designed carefully to minimise the risk of falls and serious injury. The luminaires should illuminate the entire stairwell, including the stair treads and the top and bottom landings. Glare can be a major hazard for anyone descending the stairs, so luminaires need to be chosen and positioned to avoid a glare hazard for those descending.
Lighting controls that combine daylight dimming and presence detection will maximise energy savings.
