The Challenge

The primary aims of the new lighting scheme were to improve lighting levels and minimise energy usage, through the use of Smart controls, while providing a safe and comfortable environment for the public and staff.

The Solution

Thorlux proposed that the existing SON luminaires be replaced with high efficiency Starbeam LED luminaires with SmartScan External lighting control. Flexible time-delays and security levels allow presence detection to be used safely within the car park environment while minimising energy usage during times of low occupancy.

The original scheme was under lit by modern standards, Thorlux proposed that a higher total lighting load was required to provide a compliant scheme. However, the use of Smart External control has reduced the overall energy consumption compared to the previous installation. The combination of highly efficient LEDs with superb optical control from the luminaire puts the light where it is needed most. The luminaires also benefit from lifetimes of up to 100,000 hours, providing many years of reliable lighting.
