Petrinum Municipal Grammar School
Brilon, Germany
After a two-year construction period, the Petrinum Municipal Grammar School in Brilon, central Germany, has opened a state-of-the-art science extension. The two-storey timber extension is designed to be highly efficient and uses Thorlux Lighting luminaires throughout.
The new extension is a step towards refurbishing the entire school to meet modern structural and energy-efficiency criteria. Construction of the school extension began in March 2022, combining timber panels with reinforced concrete.
In the new specialist classrooms for biology, chemistry, and physics, around 200 opal Kanby Zip luminaires cover a usable area of 1,750 square metres. R3 downlighters light the corridors, and Clara 720 circular pendant luminaires are eye-catching in the two stairwells.
Lexi edge-lit emergency exit sign luminaires have been installed throughout the building, while iconic, high-performance Realta units light the outdoor areas. All luminaires throughout the extension connect via the award-winning Thorlux SmartScan intelligent lighting management system, maximising energy savings.
