The WMG Degree Apprenticeship Centre at the University of Warwick provides apprentices with the opportunity to study on degree programmes to develop the skills needed by advanced engineering and manufacturing companies. The building, which opened in September 2019, has received £10 million from the Government’s Local Growth Fund through the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP).
Thorlux proposed the use of a range of high efficiency LED luminaires combined with SmartScan energy saving controls. Integral Smart sensors within the luminaires monitor ambient light and presence, control output to the correct level, dim and switch when there is sufficient daylight and illuminate only when the area is occupied. Lighting controls that combine maintained illuminance, daylight dimming and presence detection will maximise energy savings, in some instances in excess of 70%. Information is displayed on the SmartScan website which can be accessed from anywhere using a computer, laptop, tablet or smart-phone. The clear graphical user interface provides an overview of the whole site, through to the performance and operation of an individual luminaire.
The Zipline has been installed in the open plan study areas. The Zipline combines architectural impact, longevity and supreme efficiency . Extruded aluminium trunking is connected to a range of luminaire modules. These modules can be a combination of luminaire, emergency luminaire, spotlight and passive infra-red detector and are designed to snap into sockets located at regular intervals, ensuring a fast, flexible installation. The Zipline is available with five power options, broad, narrow and double asymmetric light distributions and a variety of accessories.
Clara 720 luminaires were chosen for the entrance atrium space. The unique design of the Clara 720 delivers a versatile lighting solution for a wide
range of commercial and retail applications. The dramatic circular profile incorporates direct and indirect lighting which enhances the interior environment and creates an elegant effect within the space.
