Lighting Project and Survey Engineer based in Hampshire, Dorset, Surrey, West Sussex
JOB TITLE: Lighting Project & Survey Engineer
DEPARTMENT: Lighting Design Department
RESPONSIBLE TO: Lighting Design Department Manager
PURPOSE OF JOB: To carry out surveys and designs of any degree of complexity with some supervision. To have some understanding and be able to communicate matters relating to lighting applications.
To work closely with the Lighting Design Department as a member of the Southern Team.
MAIN TASKS:
• Design of lighting schemes, preparing layout drawings and quotations to deadlines set, including count ups using available software.
• To assist in the production of site surveys and energy/payback calculations. Duties shall include: -
* Undertake site surveys.
* Assist with the production and amendment of the energy spread sheet proposals where necessary to achieve the best result.
• To undertake training in all methods, standards and regulations relating to lighting applications.
• To undertake training in the application of lamps, LEDs, luminaires, and photometric data by technical appreciation.
• To communicate effectively and professionally, verbally and in writing to customers and other staff at all times.
• To engage in commercial activities such as exhibition stand duty as required.
• To show a degree of flexibility with regards working hours.
• To convey a professional manner at all times.
• To create, maintain and manage their workload, meeting the deadlines set by the Southern Team Leader or Programme Manager.

As a senior member of a small, dynamic, and agile team, you will play a key role in supporting the Web Systems Manager by specifying, architecting, developing, and maintaining the back-end systems for new and existing web projects. Your work will directly impact Thorlux Lighting and its sister companies within the FW Thorpe Plc Group.
What we're looking for:
You must have:
• Experience developing object-oriented web applications with PHP
• Proven expertise with the Symfony PHP framework
• Experience with MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL or similar database technologies
• Familiarity with JavaScript, AJAX and REST APIs
Bonus points if you also have:
• Experience leading new project developments
• Experience in software project architecture or writing technical specifications
• Proficiency with Unix command line and Apache/Nginx/Caddy
• Understanding of version control systems like Git
• Familiarity with GitLab for collaboration and CI/CD pipelines
• Knowledge of Docker and containerized development
• Experience with front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS) for seamless collaboration with front-end developers
• Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks like React or Vue
A university degree or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.
