Next-gen optical technology

Area On

Area

Area optics are optimised for open spaces, providing sufficient illumination to ensure safe navigation to the closest escape route.

Corridor On

Corridor

Corridor optics achieve 1 lux escape route illumination with up to 23 m spacings, ensuring a building’s occupants can escape safely and efficiently

Corridor+ On

Corridor+

Corridor+ optics provide the same escape route illumination as standard Corridor optics, but with the addition of point-of-emphasis lighting to ensure minimum illuminance compliance.

Spot On

Spot

Spot optics focus illumination on points of emphasis or high-risk tasks, ensuring safe equipment termination and the visibility of safety or fire equipment.

Corner On

Corner

Corner optics are designed for emergency escape route direction changes, illuminating safe passage for escape.

Made to protect people and the planet

Sustainability was a key consideration in the development of the next-generation Firefly, with a 60% reduction in total embodied carbon compared to the previous model. This has been achieved by selecting recycled materials, minimising material usage, reducing energy consumption, and extending the product lifespan.

Firefly with battery
10+ year

Life expectancy

Compact design meets modern reliability. Firefly is designed for a long working life, powered by Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology, with warranties of up to ten years to ensure safe, reliable emergency lighting when needed.

100%

Constructed from sustainable materials

The housing for Firefly power pack, control module and head are made from 100% recycled polycarbonate. At the end of operating life, Firefly can be easily disassembled; all polycarbonate parts can be recycled or reused.

53%

Reduced material

Through innovative design and engineering, the weight of the new Firefly has been halved. Not only does this reduce the embodied carbon, but it also reduces the carbon associated with transportation.

60%

Lower embodied carbon

By selecting recycled materials and lowering the amount used through compact design, Thorlux has reduced the total embodied carbon generated in the manufacture of Firefly by an impressive 60%.

15%

Fewer luminaires required

The development of five state-of-the-art, precision-engineered optics can reduce the number of luminaires required in a scheme by up to 15%, lowering both upfront and ongoing costs whilst still achieving full design compliance.

100%

Sustainable packaging

Firefly comes packaged in 100% recycled and recyclable cardboard, entirely plastic-free. Paper and plastic labels have been replaced with laser etching to provide precise, durable markings on the product body.

SmartScan

Small emergency lighting on a big wireless system

SmartScan is a revolutionary wireless lighting management system that maximises energy savings and automates emergency lighting testing and record keeping. The system allows users to monitor their energy performance data and complete operational information for all SmartScan standard and emergency luminaires.

Firefly with battery

Self testing emergency

SmartScan versions of Firefly will automatically test to the specified schedule, and constantly monitor its own performance in accordance with BS EN 62034:2012. Any fault is displayed on the status indicator LED and the SmartScan Website eliminating the need to perform manual diagnostic routines.

Firefly with battery

Test scheduling

A Firefly on SmartScan Platform 2 offers the major benefit that tests are scheduled using the SmartScan Website, thus avoiding any issue of randomised testing occurring at inopportune times.

Legislation compliance

Building owners, employers or responsible persons are legally bound to record the regular testing, inspection and maintenance of their emergency lighting system. A Firefly with SmartScan will automatically test itself to the specified schedule, and constantly monitor its own performance.

Super reliable Lithium Iron Phosphate battery technology

Longer lifespan

Firefly uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology, delivering superior thermal stability, energy density, and charge retention compared to its predecessor, Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH). LiFePO4 offers double the operational life of NiMH batteries – up to ten years.

Reduced maintenance

The optimised Firefly battery has been reduced in size and weight by over 30% compared to the previous models. Firefly LiFePO4 battery changes will typically be required every 10 years, double that of a NiMH battery.

10 year battery warranty

10 year battery warranty

A market-leading warranty of up to 10 years ensures peace of mind. Thorlux offers a genuine warranty with genuine value – no get-out clauses for the number of burning hours or maintenance, and no convoluted registration process.

Intelligent charging and cell protection

10 year battery warranty

Safety is paramount. LiFePO4 is a specific type of Lithium battery technology approved for use in emergency lighting. Battery pack and individual cell monitoring and protection ensure optimum performance and safety in use. Low self-discharge allows a higher charge efficiency when compared to traditional emergency lighting battery technologies.

Reduced energy consumption

Firefly LiFePO4 batteries use 25% less energy compared to previous-generation NiMH batteries. Furthermore, LiFePO4 batteries consume significantly less energy than traditional nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries, saving as much as 60% of energy when replacing older emergency lighting.

Wider operating temperature range

With enhanced performance and a wider operating temperature range, Firefly’s LiFePO4 battery technology delivers greater flexibility across working environments.
